How should you use this glossary?
Social-gaming words often look familiar but have precise meanings in an operator’s rules. Gold Coins, Sweepstakes Coins, eligible balance, and redemption describe different things. Treating them as interchangeable can lead to an incorrect assumption about an account.
Game-mechanics terms also describe patterns, not promises. A feature name such as wild, multiplier, or hold-and-win tells you how part of a game may work, but the paytable and information screen define the exact behavior for that title.
Definitions marked HelloMillions explain HelloMillions-specific terms. The current Terms, promotion rules, account interface, and game information take priority if a definition and a live rule ever differ.
A to C
Account verification
A process used to confirm that account information belongs to a real, eligible person. It can include a government-issued photo ID, selfie, proof of address, payment evidence, location checks, or further information. The evidence requested depends on the operator and account action.
Alternative method of entry (AMOE)
A way to participate in a promotion without making a purchase. A mail-in request is a common example. The governing rules can specify exact wording, address, format, request code, timing, and frequency. Old instructions from another site should never be reused.
Autoplay
A game control that starts a selected number of plays automatically, where available. The customer should still be able to stop it and see the selected coin type, entry amount, and limit. Availability and control design vary by game and jurisdiction.
Balance
The quantity of a particular virtual coin shown in an account. A Gold Coin balance is separate from a Sweepstakes Coins balance. A displayed SC balance may also differ from the portion currently eligible for a prize request.
Base game
The ordinary state of a game before a special feature begins. Symbols, reels, ways, and feature triggers can behave differently in the base game and a feature. The title’s information screen explains the exact rules.
Cash prize
A monetary prize available through an eligible sweepstakes redemption. It is not the same as Gold Coins or an unapproved SC balance. Identity, location, account, method, and rules checks can apply before a prize is approved and delivered.
Coin value
The value assigned to one game coin for a selected play configuration. Changing coin value can change the total entry amount and displayed award calculation. It does not convert Gold Coins into Sweepstakes Coins or make entertainment coins prize-eligible.
Collect feature
A mechanic that gathers values shown on special symbols when a collecting symbol or event appears. The collected total, eligible symbols, and trigger conditions are specific to each game. Similar artwork does not guarantee the same rules.
Customer Account
The registered account through which a person accesses an operator’s service. HelloMillions: the current Terms permit one Customer Account per person and require accurate information. Creating a second account can trigger review or closure.
D to H
Daily reward
A recurring promotional or entertainment allocation that may become available after a defined interval. The current amount, coin type, eligibility, and claim timing can change. A daily reward should not be assumed to renew at the same local time across every operator.
Denomination
The unit value selected for a game coin. If a game shows a denomination control, it helps determine how coin credits correspond to the total entry amount and awards. The effect of changing it must be checked in that game’s information screen.
Eligible balance
The part of a Sweepstakes Coins balance that currently meets the operator’s published conditions for a prize request. It can differ from the total balance because applicable play, verification, minimums, or account review may still be outstanding.
Entry
Participation in a promotion under its official rules. An entry can be obtained through a no-purchase method. In a game interface, the related number may describe the virtual-coin amount selected for a play, not a payment for a guaranteed result.
Expanding wild
A wild symbol that grows to cover additional positions when specified conditions occur. It may cover a reel, row, or another defined area. Whether it substitutes for every symbol and how expansion is triggered depend on the game rules.
Feature
A distinct game event with rules beyond the base game, such as free spins, respins, a pick screen, or a hold-and-win round. A feature may be triggered by symbols, progress, or another event. It does not guarantee a particular result.
Feature purchase
An optional game control that starts a named feature in exchange for a stated virtual-coin amount, where the game and location permit it. Availability, price, mechanics, and expected return can differ from ordinary play. Read the game information before use.
Fixed jackpot
A jackpot whose displayed award is set by the game rules rather than growing with activity. The word fixed describes how the amount is determined, not how often it is awarded. Trigger conditions remain title-specific.
Free spins
Game plays provided without using the ordinary selected coin amount at the moment each play starts. They may be a game feature or a promotional reward. Coin mode, expiration, eligible games, and results depend on the governing terms.
GC
The standard abbreviation for Gold Coins. GC are used for entertainment play. HelloMillions: Gold Coins have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for cash prizes, and may be provided free or acquired through an optional Gold Coin package.
Geolocation
Technology and account checks used to estimate or confirm where a device and customer are physically located. Signals can include network information, device permission, and third-party location services. HelloMillions prohibits masking location through a VPN or proxy.
Gold Coins
Virtual coins used for entertainment play. HelloMillions: Gold Coins have no cash value and are not eligible for cash-prize redemption. Optional purchases are for Gold Coin packages; no purchase is required to create an account or play.
Hold-and-win
A feature in which selected value symbols remain in place while other positions respin for a limited number of attempts. Landing another qualifying symbol can reset the attempts. Grid size, values, jackpots, and end conditions vary by title.
I to P
Identity proofing
The process of connecting a claimed identity to reliable evidence and to the person presenting it. The NIST Digital Identity Guidelines describe resolution, evidence validation, and applicant verification as distinct activities.
Jackpot
A defined game award associated with a special trigger. It can be fixed, progressive, local to one title, or linked across titles. The display and game information should explain the amount or calculation and the qualifying conditions.
KYC
An abbreviation for Know Your Customer, a common name for identity and account verification. The exact workflow varies. It can involve ID validation, selfie comparison, address confirmation, and review of account or payment information.
Lines
Predefined symbol paths used to evaluate results in some reel games. A payline may run straight or follow a pattern. The number of active lines and whether they are adjustable depend on the title.
Live dealer game
A streamed table-style game presented by a human host or dealer, usually with an interface for decisions and results. Video delay, table rules, coin mode, seat availability, and interaction features differ by provider and title.
Megaways
A reel mechanic in which the number of symbol positions can change from play to play, creating a variable number of ways to form combinations. Implementations vary by title and provider; the paytable explains the exact version used by a game.
Minimum redemption
The smallest eligible prize request accepted under the current rules or method. It is a product fact that can change and can vary by prize type. Check the authenticated flow rather than an old third-party table.
Multiplier
A value that increases a qualifying game award by the stated factor. A multiplier can apply to one symbol, one feature, or a total result. The trigger, maximum, and combination rules are game-specific.
No purchase necessary
A central sweepstakes principle meaning a person must have a genuine way to participate without making a purchase. It does not remove age, location, account, conduct, verification, or promotion-specific requirements.
Payline
A particular line along which matching symbols are evaluated in a line-based reel game. Symbols may need to appear from a specified side or position. The paytable defines the direction and qualifying combinations.
Paytable
The in-game information that lists symbol values, feature triggers, special rules, and sometimes technical details such as RTP or volatility. It is the first source to check for a title-specific mechanics question.
Prize
Something of value awarded under a promotion’s rules. A prize can be monetary or another offered item. A virtual-coin balance is not automatically a delivered prize, and a legitimate operator should not demand an unexpected payment to release one.
Progressive jackpot
A jackpot designed to grow according to the game or network rules until it is awarded or reset. The display may show a changing value. Eligibility, contribution, trigger, starting value, and reset behavior must be checked in the title.
Provider
The studio or technology company that supplies a game or platform component. A provider can set title-specific rules and territory restrictions. Provider identity is separate from the operator that contracts with the customer.
Q to S
Random number generator (RNG)
A process that generates random values or sequences used by a digital system. NIST defines an RNG broadly as a process producing random values or sequences. A game’s implementation and testing require title-specific evidence.
Redemption
The process of requesting an available prize from an eligible Sweepstakes Coins balance. It can include account, identity, location, request-detail, and rules review. Submission is not the same as approval or delivery.
Reel
A vertical or otherwise arranged sequence of symbols in a reel-style game. Digital reels can use different layouts, symbol sets, and weighting. The visible reel length alone does not reveal the probability of every result.
Respin
An additional game play of some or all positions, often within a feature. Symbols can remain fixed while others change. The number of respins, reset conditions, and cost, if any, are defined by the game.
Return to player (RTP)
A long-run percentage calculated for a game configuration. It describes an average over a large amount of activity, not what one person will receive in a session. Different modes or configurations can have different RTP values.
SC
The standard abbreviation for Sweepstakes Coins. HelloMillions: SC are free promotional entries that cannot be purchased directly. Eligible SC may be redeemed for prizes after applicable rules and verification requirements are met.
Scatter
A special symbol that can trigger an award or feature without appearing on a standard payline, depending on the game. The required count, eligible reels, and result are shown in the paytable.
Session limit
An account control that restricts play time over a defined period. HelloMillions: the published daily session limit resets at midnight local time, and reaching it logs the customer out until the next day.
Social casino
A digital social-gaming service using virtual coins for entertainment. Some services also offer separate sweepstakes promotions. HelloMillions is a social casino which offers free to play sweepstakes casino games.
Spin
One activation of a reel-style game. The selected coin type, denomination, total entry amount, and enabled features should be visible before activation. Whether one result affects a later game state depends on the title’s rules; do not assume a compensation mechanism.
Sticky wild
A wild symbol that remains in place for a defined number of respins or for part of a feature. It may substitute for selected symbols. The duration and substitution rules vary by title.
Sweepstakes
A chance-based prize promotion with a genuine no-purchase participation route. Official rules normally define eligibility, entry, timing, prizes, and conduct. State-specific conditions and operator restrictions can still apply.
Sweepstakes Coins
Free promotional entries used in eligible sweepstakes play. HelloMillions: Sweepstakes Coins cannot be purchased directly. Eligible SC can be redeemed for prizes subject to current rules, play requirements, verification, and account eligibility.
T to Z
Time-Out
The name HelloMillions uses for a fixed short break. The current Player Safety page offers 1 to 30 days, blocks purchases and gameplay, permits limited account viewing and redemption requests, and says the selection cannot be cancelled.
Verification
A check that information, evidence, or a claimed attribute is valid and belongs to the relevant person. Account verification can occur at registration, before a prize request, or when information changes or needs further review.
Virtual Coins
Digital units licensed for use within a service. Their rights and restrictions come from the operator’s Terms. Virtual Coins are not automatically money, customer property, or transferable value merely because an account displays a number.
Volatility
A description of how unevenly a game’s theoretical returns may be distributed. A lower-volatility design tends toward more frequent smaller results; a higher-volatility design tends toward less frequent larger results. It does not predict a particular session.
Ways
Symbol-position combinations used to evaluate results without fixed paylines. A ways game may require matching symbols on adjacent reels or positions. The layout and evaluation rules are defined in the paytable.
Wild
A symbol that substitutes for some other symbols when forming a qualifying result. A wild may exclude scatters, jackpots, or other special symbols. Expanding, sticky, stacked, and multiplier wilds add title-specific behavior.
Which terms are most often confused?
Keep these boundaries clear:
| Do not confuse | With | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Coins | Sweepstakes Coins | GC are entertainment-only; SC are promotional entries. |
| Total SC balance | Eligible SC balance | Applicable play or checks may still be outstanding. |
| Prize request | Approved prize | Submission begins a review; it does not complete it. |
| Company registration | Activity-specific permission | They answer different legal questions. |
| RTP | A session prediction | RTP is a long-run measure. |
| Volatility | RTP | Distribution and long-run return are different concepts. |
| Provider | Operator | One supplies games; the other contracts with the customer. |
| Account closure | Self-Exclusion | They have different purposes and reactivation rules. |
When a term affects money, eligibility, privacy, or access, check the current HelloMillions Terms, offer, account flow, or Customer Support guidance instead of relying on a general definition.
Frequently asked questions
Are Gold Coins and Sweepstakes Coins interchangeable?
No. They have different purposes, balances, and rules. The Terms do not provide a general conversion right.
Does RTP predict what will happen in my session?
No. RTP is a long-run percentage and does not guarantee a result over a short period or for one person.
Is a total SC balance always eligible for redemption?
No. Applicable play, minimums, verification, location, and account checks can affect the eligible amount.
Does a company registration number equal a US gaming license?
No. A registration number identifies a company. It does not establish permission for every activity in every location.
Which source controls a game term?
Use the current in-game paytable and information screen for title-specific mechanics, then the operator’s current Terms for account rules.
